Digit news - AMD debuts four-core “4×4″ motherboard
AMD has launched a motherboard capabable of taking two dual-core Athlon 64 FX-70 series chips and uses Nvidia’s 680a chipset.
Some might say it’s not true 4×4 but running 2x dual core. However it will be compatible with future true quad core designs being released next year. It’s aimed at high end gamers.

Digit news - Matrox offers Mac users Head2Go
Matrix have released Mac software for their DualHead2Go and TripleHead2Go external boxes that allow 2 or 3 monitors respectively to be connected to the video output of a Matrix graphics card through the single display port. This allows resolutions up to 2,560-x-10,241 and 3,840-x-10,241 performing like a single ultra widescreen monitor.

Streaming software service BitTorrent has inked deals with several movie studios and content producers in the company’s latest effort to shed its reputation as a tool for software and media piracy. Several major Hollywood players will sell or rent content via BitTorrent’s Web site, including 20th Century Fox, MTV Networks, Lionsgate, Starz Media, Paramount Pictures and Kadokawa Pictures.

Despite the salivation over Sony’s new PlayStation game console, the company is trailing in sales due to its inability to provide enough product to meet demand. Nintendo has done a lot better in delivering Wii to eager gamers, though it is also largely sold out. Microsoft may be the beneficiary, as its Xbox 360 is much easier to get.

Apple’s Security Update 2006-007 includes fixes for vulnerabilities in OS X code — including a WiFi hijack flaw that has been known since the summer — and in third-party components that ship with the Mac operating system, including Perl, PHP and OpenSSL. Many of the flaws could allow full system compromises, according to Apple’s security advisory.

The National Institute on Media and the Family released its 11th annual video game report card Wednesday to alert parents to games the group says are inappropriate for children and teens. “Pay attention to the games your kids, our kids, are playing,” said Sen. Joe Lieberman, D-Conn. “It’s really time to focus on the parents and urge parents to pay attention.”

Wal-Mart’s new movie download service could hasten the demise of the traditional DVD and help catapult the retailer into the center of the video-on-demand marketplace. Initially, consumers will be able to purchase a DVD of the movie “Superman Returns” in-store and also purchase an inexpensive video download option.

Currently, Apple allows iTunes Store customers to play purchased music, videos, TV shows and movies on up to five different PCs. Apple has not commented on the status of its negotiations with the movie makers, or the likelihood that it will change its FairPlay copy protection scheme to please them.
