SF Cloud: Mute Point?

Mayor Gavin Newsom proposed a free Wi-Fi system for San Francisco two years ago. His administration negotiated a contract with Google and Earthlink that would pay the city $2 million over four years. Google would provide free Internet access; EarthLink would offer a faster service that could be accessed for a $22 monthly fee.

Umbrella FlickrVision

MacBook Upgrade
Apple today updated its 13-inch MacBook consumer notebooks with faster Intel Core 2 Duo processors, 1GB of memory and larger hard drives in every model. Prices have remained the same.
The MacBook features built-in 802.11n, a built-in iSight video camera, Apple’s MagSafe Power Adapter and iLife ‘06, Apple’s suite of digital lifestyle applications.

Motorola Media Phones
Motorola, the No.2 mobile phone maker after Nokia, unveiled a slimmer Razr phone on Tuesday as well as more 3G products with Linux, Java and multimedia. The company announced mobile movie partnerships with Universal Pictures, Sony and Warner Brothers. Universal Pictures is a unit of NBC Universal, controlled by General Electric.

TerreStar Gets a Slot
The FCC last week granted TerreStar Networks a reservation on 20MHz of spectrum in the 2GHz frequency band for use in both the United States and Canada to operate its next generation satellite phone system.

Motient Corporation owns a piece of both TerreStar and Mobile Satellite Ventures (MSV). Both plan satellite phone service throughout North America.

ePaper Tablet Concept
The Traveller is a design concept for a GPS navigation system made from E-paper that folds up like a paperback, says Gizmodo.
The concept unit was created with tourists in mind, letting them pinpoint where they are and easily upload recent photos (the unit will have built-in Wi-Fi and limited storage).
